Zyrtec Children’s Allergy Relief Indoor & Outdoor 24 Hour Relief, Bubble Gum Syrup, 4-Ounce Bottle
This medicine is great for getting rid of symptoms, but it also turns many children (especially those with already existing anxiety issues) into beasts. If it does mention that it causes nervousness or excitability in children–that is an understatement. I work with a child who already has existing anxiety issues, but can control it with various strategies. This turned him into a defiant and violent child. Please think twice when giving this to children for their allergies ESPECIALLY if they are particularly nervous, shy, or have any behavior issues. There are many other alternatives out there. . . this is not a good one!
I also took the adult version of this allergy med and felt like I was loosing my mind for about a month. It did a great job of getting rid of my symptoms, but I’d rather not feel like I’m going senile at the age of 28 thank you. I have since replaced it with using a neti pot, taking stinging nettle, Omega 3s, and Quercetin and Bromelain–it does the job and I have my sanity.

She won’t touch the grape and for whatever reason you can’t get this stuff for love or money in our neighborhood (North Side of Chicago). Thankfully Amazon came through for us!

Our 3-year old daughter suffers from seasonal allergies that were leading to almost constant ear infections. The poor child spent much of her second year of life on antibiotics. Once she turned two, our doctor prescribed 5mg. Zyrtec daily. What a change! One week on Zyrtec and the runny nose slowed to at most a trickle and the harsh red eczema on her inner elbows cleared. The worst side effect (sometimes a blessing!) is Zyrtec sometimes makes her a little sleepy. She takes it every night right after bath. It tastes sweet so she thinks it’s her nighttime treat! I recommend giving it a try if your child keeps getting “colds” that lead to infections. It worked for us.
